settling in
It's been a whirlwind couple of weeks! We moved into our new place in Cobble Hill, celebrated both my and C’s birthdays [yes, we’re both Pisces. Yes, it is a little chaotic], and if you haven't already seen, we launched some big news over at Rent the Runway.
So, after coming off of a couple of weeks of nonstop go-go-go, it feels nice to be able to settle in and enjoy the neighborhood. For one, I’ve been loving how we can spontaneously try a new restaurant or bar on almost any night of the week. One of the difficult things about living in West Village was having to plan in advance anytime we wanted to eat out at a restaurant. You effectively needed reservations for every restaurant, and you needed to book them ~3-4 weeks in advance. So, yes, I’m still shocked each time I walk into a spot and ask “What’s the wait for two?” and they respond with “For two, right this way!”
Another thing, everything in Brooklyn feels so BIG. Maybe the reason you always needed a reservation in West Village was because the spots are so tiny? [I kid.] In most of the restaurants I've walked into in our new hood, I think the seating ends where the eye can see. I’m then surprised to find out there is even more seating around the back, and, better yet, oftentimes there’s even a backyard!
What else do I love? Being able to walk to a Trader Joe's. It’s literally 5 minutes away from our apartment, and it is game changing. If we realize that we are out of or need a specific ingredient for a recipe during the week, we don't have to pivot our entire dinner menu [or worse get burned at Citarella]. We can just pop on down to TJ’s- no muss no fuss. It also means we can do smaller grocery runs instead of loading up for weeks at a time and then ubering home (what we used to do since we were about a mile away from the closest Trader Joe’s.) Again, none of these are deal breakers, per say, but when added all together it has been game changing.
Now that all the boxes are out, the fun part begins! We’ve been visioning and decorating to make this space our own. What’s more fun? This new apartment is a 3 bedroom, so it’s time to start making plans for the third room [the second is our work-from-home office]. My vision is to transform it into a creative den–a space to get the creative juices flowing. It’ll be a place where I can write, daydream, and muse about what I want to create next. For C, it'll be a place to paint [yes, he paints] and play guitar.
I’m sure it'll take a little time to pull together but, I’m really excited to build it out and make it just ours.
