to be continued
Boy, does it feel good to be home! For those of you who have been following along, you know that I was in Las Vegas this past weekend and in Nashville the weekend before that! [Make sure to follow along on Instagram- @queenrevelyn- if you don’t already. You can check out both trips in my Instagram Highlights!]
So I’m more than happy to spend this weekend in SF, just catching up on life- friends, shoots, and errands. In fact, I’ve got it all charted out in my planner. Some of you might have already seen on Instagram a while back that I got my first Erin Condren Life Planner [not sponsored I just love this thing.] Let me tell you-it’s exactly what I needed! Seriously, I living for having everything in one place, decorated AND color coded. But I won’t try to convince you of planners over Google calendar...at least, not in this post ;)
Instead, I wanted to ask you more generally about planning- life planning, if you will.
I used to be a “planner.” I applied to and entered Penn planning to major in Communications- and I did! Then, post grad, the plan said I would move back to New York to work in fashion or media. Clearly, that all took a turn as I now live in San Francisco and work in Tech. Continuing down this path, I also didn’t plan to continue blogging. I started leave a little sparkle right after graduation and thought that once I moved out West and started a full time job, there would be no way I could keep it all up. Here we are 1 ½ years later!
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about a “plan” as of late. Why, you ask? I don’t know if I made it clear to you all here, but the the program that I am a part of at Google is rotational. For our first rotation, almost everyone starts out together in Cali, hence my cross country move, and for the second, people start to split up across all corners of the world- New York, London, Singapore, Sydney, and the list goes on. I say all of that because today THE LIST is released. The list of all open roles that I (and the rest of my class) can rotate to.
As I’m sure you can imagine we have all been anticipating this list for weeks. We want to know what slots are available, on which teams, on what products, in which locations. We want to know because we want to plan. [I mean, if you were moving to London in 2 months wouldn’t you want to know and plan?!]
But then I got to thinking, the way I got here-to this exact place, writing to you from San Francisco- was never in my plan. But I wouldn’t trade it for the world! So you know what, I think it’ll all be okay. So, LIST, I’m ready for you. Show me what you’ve got [pero like also please please please make there be a role and team and product and location that I love. Kthanksbye.]
What about you all? Tell me in the comments below how you deal with the unknown. Or maybe you’re as cool as a cucumber and deal well in situations like these?
I’ll keep you all posted on where I land, but for now, this story is quite literally to be continued...
