My mind is nowhere [let me repeat- no where] near as prenuptially occupied as Carrie’s was on these very steps. But, it wasn’t until she chose the New York Public Library as the venue for her supposed fairytale wedding to Mr. Big [sigh] that I wondered-is it really a normal library? With study spaces and books to check out?

I realized, after living in New York for over 20 years and passing by countless times, I’ve never ventured inside. [To be honest, the list of ‘New York’ things I still haven’t done is embarrassingly long. First on the list- the Statue of Liberty].

So I wandered inside, and lo and behold it was. I mean, aside from the tourists taking photos and the groups of guided tours [would it really be New York without them?],...it is just another ordinary library.

I took a minute, found a designated quiet space, sat down, and read. Even though I [along with what seems like the rest of the world] always complain that I never have enough time, and I still have a never ending list of books to read, I love reading. [I’m currently reading The Other Wes Moore- so far so good!]

All in all, even if just for a moment, my trip to the library was a nice escape from the New York heat and a lovely afternoon spent lost in literature.
