imperfect

One of the things that this new found time at home has brought me is trying new things. I mentioned before that I have enrolled in online classes to help boost my Adobe skills, but even outside the classroom, I continue to learn new things too-- like how to shoot sans a photographer.

When I first started this blog I didn't really know where it would lead me. All I knew was that it was something I’d always wanted to do and there seemed like no better time to pursue it than the free summer I had after graduation. Lucky for me, that also meant that my younger brother was free and around to help shoot some of those earlier posts. (Yes, like this shoot here.) I also joined forces with some of my creative friends from Penn who were interning in NYC and shot with them. (Like with Teresa for this shoot.)

When I moved to the Bay Area and decided that I would continue creating for my blog, I had to build up a whole new network of photographers. It took time, but eventually I was introduced to friends of friends and even met some photographers at events. And now I’m back in New York, where, yes, I had to build up a new roster of photographers all over again. (Like the lovely Diana for this shoot.)

But given the current circumstances, I can’t tap into that network. So, here I am, experimenting with a tripod. To answer your question- nope, I’ve never picked up a tripod before! But what better time than now. Fun fact- the fashionable ladies who used to live in my apartment actually left it behind (with a couple of other gifts I continue to be thankful for). So this is my continued foray into isolation creation, if you will.

You’ll see that some shots aren’t exactly in focus or aren’t 100% in frame but you know what, that’s okay. One of the many lessons I’m learning from this new found slowed down pace is that things don’t always go as planned [case and point this entire situation], but what truly matters is how you react given that change. And, on top of that, I actually have a newfound appreciation for shots that I would have previously deemed too imperfect.

Hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed creating them. More experimentation (and tripod-ing) to come!
