drumroll, please
Wow, I guess it really has been a month since the LIST was released. [If you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, go back and read this post here.] To paint a better picture, the LIST had about 113 open positions in places like Singapore, Sao Palo, Los Angeles, Toronto, New York, Madrid, London... on teams like the Google Assistant, Chrome, Google Doodles [yep, the beautiful cartoons entwined in the Google logo- we call them doodles] YouTube...the possibilities were quite literally endless.
After the hiring managers presented on the open positions, then commenced an onslaught of chats with each of the teams. First with the manager and then slowly other members of their team. Knowing that we need to rank 3-5 teams in the end, you can do the math about how many coffee chats we were doing in a week’s time.
And then we waited. Waited to hear back, hoping that one of your picks picked you as well. It’s kind of like speed dating...but with much high stakes. Several pro’s & con’s lists, some restless nights, and loads of soul thinking later- it has all come to an end [thank god!]
Drumroll, please--- I will be transitioning to the B2C Marketing team for YouTube main app [that’s business jargon for ensuring you have the best experience using YouTube no matter what device.] And I’ll be staying put here in the Bay Area, at least for the next year.
But Rolanda, what about London? [said everyone ever] To be truly honest with you, my full circle experience 2 weeks ago made me realize that I’ve put quite a lot of time and effort into building a community out here- going to events alone, meeting up with strangers, and really just taking a chance on experiences. I did a lot of the hard work [I won’t lie; it was hard work] to find a place here and now that I’ve found it, I selfishly want to revel in it. A foray down the leave a little sparkle rabbit hole will quickly show you how I once felt about this city. In truth, I think it just took me longer to acclimate to San Francisco as a ride or die New Yorker. [Don't worry, I still hope to make London the next stop on this adventure some time soon. So stay tuned!]
Oh and my friends?! The majority of my class is moving- 3 to New York, 1 to LA, 1 to Kenya, 1 to Oslo & Amsterdam and...8 to London. Well, at least now I know my first leg of my next European tour! But I guess it also means more events to attend solo- my work here isn't done!
